يلعب عادل امام في هذا الفيلم دور المعلم مرسي يعيش مع زوجته ووالداه ، ودائما يبحث عن حياة أفضل. والد مرسي كان رجلا نزيها للغاية و لم سمح له بكسب المال باي طريقة غير مشروعة. صدفة التقي عادل إمام سلوى التي كانت فتاة جميلة جدا و زميلته السبقة في الدراسة . فرطة سلوا في كل مبادئها و شرفها من اجل حياة البذخ وقررة التلاعب بمرسي حتي ان يتزوجها. وفي وقت لاحق تفطن مرسي لخدعة زوجته و لاكنه اضطر لمواصلة العيش معها بعد ان نهره وطرده والده من بيته. وينتهي الفيلم بعد ان قتل عادل إمام زوجته و عشيقها وقرر العودة للحياة الصادقة النزيه مرة أخرى.
